Our Hearts Are With Our Community
The devastating wildfires affecting Spokane and Eastern Washington have brought tremendous loss, uncertainty and disruption to families throughout our region. Our hearts are with everyone who has lost a home, been displaced or evacuated, is waiting for news, or is helping family members, friends, and neighbors navigate this incredibly difficult time.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, emergency personnel, National Guard members, utility crews, shelter workers, nonprofit organizations, volunteers and neighbors working tirelessly to protect and care for our community.
Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists has gathered the following resources to help connect affected individuals and families with immediate assistance, essential supplies, health information and recovery support. This page is a starting point and may not include every available resource.
Evacuation Shelters
If you have been ordered to evacuate, leave promptly and follow instructions from public safety officials.
Spokane Convention Center
The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation shelter at the Spokane Convention Center for people displaced by the Old Trails Fire in north Spokane and other Spokane-area wildfires. Parking is free, and pets are welcome.

Northwood Middle School
An evacuation center for people displaced by the Fairview Fire in Mead is open at Northwood Middle School.

Confirm shelter availability before traveling through the American Red Cross shelter website or Spokane County emergency updates.
Pet and Animal Assistance
Spokane County Fair & Expo Center: The fairgrounds is providing space for evacuated families with pets, including dogs, cats, small animals, horses and livestock. Spokane HEART and other animal-response partners are assisting at the fairgrounds.
Spokane Convention Center: SpokAnimal is assisting evacuees with pets at the Red Cross shelter.
Lost or found animals: SpokAnimal is temporarily housing rescued pets at no cost to help reunite them with their families. People searching for missing animals should also check with SCRAPS, veterinary clinics and local lost-pet groups.
Bring carriers or leashes, food, medications and identification records when time and safety allow. Confirm current space and intake instructions before transporting an animal.

Food, Clothing, and Essential Supplies
The following organizations may help families access meals, groceries, clothing, diapers, hygiene products and other necessities:
- Second Harvest Inland Northwest — Emergency food assistance and distribution locations
- The Salvation Army Spokane — Meals and community support
- World Central Kitchen — Freshly prepared meals in disaster-affected communities
- Partners Inland Northwest — Groceries, clothing, diapers and family essentials
- Project Beauty Share — Personal hygiene and essential-care products
- Plato's Closet Spokane Valley — Free clothing assistance for people affected by the fires

Medical Needs and Wildfire Smoke
Call 911 for severe difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, loss of consciousness or another life-threatening emergency.
If you evacuated without necessary medications or medical supplies, contact your pharmacy, prescribing provider or insurance company as soon as possible. Call 211 for help locating healthcare or prescription-assistance resources.
NWOS Patients
If an evacuation, road closure or other wildfire-related issue affects an upcoming NWOS appointment, surgery, therapy visit, medication question or access to your care plan, please call 509-344-2663.
Wildfire Smoke and Power Outages
Power outages: Check with your utility provider for current outage information. Spokane Regional Health District provides links to Avista, Inland Power, Modern Electric, Vera Water and Power, and other regional providers.
Wildfire smoke: Smoke can affect people even outside evacuation zones. Guidance is available for vulnerable family members, indoor air quality, masks and health precautions.

Financial, Housing and Bill Assistance
The following organizations may provide housing navigation, utility assistance, emergency financial support, family services or recovery assistance:
- SNAP — Housing, utility and financial assistance
- Catholic Charities Eastern Washington — Housing navigation and family support
- American Red Cross — Disaster recovery and possible financial assistance
- Washington 211 — Help locating available local programs
Places to Rest, Shower, Charge Devices, or Work
The following locations may provide daytime support for people who have been displaced or whose homes or workplaces are inaccessible. These are not overnight emergency shelters.
- YMCA of the Inland Northwest — Local branches are offering evacuees a place to rest, shower and charge devices. A valid photo ID is required.
- Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce — Wi-Fi, device charging and workspace during regular business hours
- Burbity Workspaces — Free coworking space at staffed Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake locations. Burbity phone: 509-255-7275

Ways to Support Wildfire Recovery
- Innovia Foundation and STCU Here for Good Foundation — Donations support local nonprofit organizations providing immediate relief and long-term wildfire recovery. STCU will match donations up to a total of $100,000.
- American Red Cross Washington Wildfire Relief — Supports shelter, meals, relief supplies and other disaster services.
- Volunteer with the American Red Cross — Explore current shelter and disaster-response volunteer opportunities. Registration and training may be required.
- Partners Inland Northwest — Donate requested food, clothing, diapers, hygiene items or financial support for local families.
Community needs may change quickly. Confirm requested supplies, volunteer opportunities and donation instructions directly with each organization. Only donate through verified organizations and please do not enter evacuation zones to deliver supplies or offer assistance.
