Herniated Lumbar Disc Replacement

-A +A

A newer surgical procedure, lumbar disc replacement surgery treats lower back pain and discomfort. During this surgery, the affected lower back discs are replaced with artificial, high-grade metal or plastic lumbar discs. This back surgery is different than spinal fusion surgery, where two vertebras are joined together.

Lumbar disc replacement surgery is considered a major surgery and may require a two to four day stay in the hospital following the procedure. Most people recover from their lumbar disc replacement procedure within a few weeks and experience less back pain after their procedures.
